Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment (PRP)

Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment

PRP is non-surgical treatment for osteoarthritis and sports injuries. It uses the body’s natural healing process to enhance, repair and regenerate tissue.

PRP treatment is mainly for ligament, tendon and muscle tears, chronic tendon pain and osteoarthritis knee pain. For example tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis.

The treatment involves withdrawing blood, a separation procedure to extract and concentrate the platelet rich plasma and then injecting that into the area of concern aiming to promote the healing response.

The healing of injured or inflamed tissue involves a complex & precisely regulated series of natural processes within the body. Thrombocytes (platelets) play an important role in this process. At the site of injury they release growth factors that initiate the restoration of injured tissue & inhibit painful inflammatory processes.

PRP therapy is based on our understanding of these processes. With its high concentration of growth factors, it supports the body’s self healing process.

Suitable for any age, mainly for ligament, tendon and muscle tears, PRP can be used to treat a variety of conditions such as: tennis elbow; golfers elbow; knee tendinosis; rotator cuff tears; achilles tendinosis; plantar fasciitis and osteoarthritis.

Currently this procedure is not covered by ACC.
